Gardaí in appeal for witnesses after inconclusive post mortem examination
The results of a post-mortem examination on the body of a Co. Louth man in his 50s have proven to be inconclusive.
The 53-year-old died yesterday at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, where he was being treated for a head injury.
The man - who Gardaí have not yet named - was involved in an altercation with a group of youths in Drogheda last Thursday.
State Pathologist Dr. Marie Cassidy has said that further tests will be required to determine the exact cause of his death - that could take a number of weeks.
Authorities have confirmed that a number of witnesses are helping them with enquiries over the altercation, which happened after lunchtime, at the junction of Bessexwell Lane and Shop Street in the town.
Gardaí at Drogheda are renewing their appeal for more witnesses to come forward.
