Court jails duo for role in international drug smuggling

Two men have been jailed for eight years each for their part in an international drug smuggling operation to bring almost €5m worth of cocaine into Ireland.

Two men have been jailed for eight years each for their part in an international drug smuggling operation to bring almost €5m worth of cocaine into Ireland.

45-year-old Sean O’Donovan and 55-year-old German man Richard Deutschenbaur both pleaded guilty to possession of €4.8m worth of cocaine.

Both men were caught unpacking 68kgs of the drug hidden in a consignment of tinned pineapples when gardaí raided a lock-up in Ballinakilla in North Cork last October.
