Motion calling for removal of household charge defeated

Sinn Féin's Private Members Motion - calling for the household charge to be scrapped - has been defeated in the Dáil tonight by 76 votes to 48.

The party had hoped that if the Bill were passed, the charge would be abolished, with those who have paid it already being reimbursed.
