Man to be sentenced for rape of minor

A Westmeath father will be sentenced later for the rape and sexual assault of his wife's 13-year-old niece.

The 54-year-old, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the now 15-year-old victim, pleaded guilty at the Central Criminal Court to several sample charges on dates between March 2006 and June 2010.

The court heard he admitted having "distorted feelings towards children and their sexuality".

He also claimed to have been seduced by children.
