Former CIE bus driver sentenced in cocaine case

A former CIE bus driver has been jailed for 13 years for soliciting two undercover gardaí to import cocaine from Brazil.

Sunny Idah, who has addresses in London and at Lipton Court, Temple Bar, Dublin was convicted at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on two charges dating back to September 2010.

Sunny Idah was described at his trial as being part of an international drug operation.

Today, Judge Des Hogan said the offences which involved recruiting mules was considerably more serious than a person convicted of bringing drugs into the country.

Sunny Idah used the name Teamor while soliciting two undercover gardaí to travel to Rio de Janeiro where, for €5,000 a head, they were each to swallow a kilo of cocaine pellets for import back to Ireland.

The investigation was initiated by a tip off from an undercover Swiss police agent, posing as a drugs supplier.

The 36-year-old, who has dual Irish and Nigerian citizenship, was handed a 15-year sentence, with two years suspended.
