Bradley brothers sentenced to total of 12.5 years in jail for €900,000 raid plot
Two brothers who plotted to steal €900,000 from a cash-in-transit van have been jailed for a total of 12 and a half years.
Alan Bradley of Churchfields, Kentstown in Co Meath and his younger brother Wayne Bradley, of Ratoath Road, Finglas in Dublin, pleaded guilty to conspiring to steal cash from Chubb Ireland on November 2, 2007 at Tesco, Celbridge in Co Kildare.
Seven people, including an insider, have so far been identified in the plot to steal nearly €900,000 from the Chubb Ireland cash in transit van.
Thirty-eight-year-old Alan Bradley was described in court as second in command in the conspiracy under the late crime boss Eamonn Dunne, who was arrested with the brothers at the scene.
Gardaí had been watching the gang and moved in when they attempted and failed to open the front door of the van.
Wayne Bradley has been given seven years with 18 months suspended for acting as a lookout. Alan Bradley received nine years, with two suspended.
The judge said this type of organisation remained a significant social evil and he said the maximum 10-year penalty for this offence was insufficient.
He added that the sentences handed down to the brothers were less than what he would have deemed appropriate if he had been left with a free hand.
