Man hospitalised after shooting

A man is being treated in hospital today after being shot in the arm.

Gardaí are investigating whether the shooting is linked with a burglary at a farm, where the farmer’s son let off a warning shot at a man running through a field.

The incident happened at Maryland farm in Kilsallaghan, north Dublin, yesterday afternoon.

A 34-year-old injured man later admitted himself to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, Co Louth, with gunshot wounds.

He was transferred to Beaumont where he underwent emergency surgery to his arm.

No arrests have been made.

Gardaí said the owner of the farm was on holiday but when his son called to check the property at around 3.30pm yesterday he noticed the house had been burgled.

He chased a silver Lexus car as it drove through the farm but when it got stuck the suspected burglar was picked up by an accomplice in a BMW X5.

Gardaí in Swords are investigating and have forensically examined the Lexus.
