2.4m Leap card journeys recorded since December
The integrated Leap Card ticket system for Dublin public transport has reached over 2.4 million journeys since its launch in December of last year.
Figures from the National Transport Authority (NTA) also show that there are 79,296 users of the 'contactless' card, with top-ups totalling close to €5m in the three months since its introduction.
Junior Transport Minister Alan Kelly said it is clear that Dublin commuters are taking enthusiastically to the card, and the way people are using transport in the city is changing.
Over 2,000 cards a week are being sold, Minister Kelly added, and a typical week sees over 200,000 journeys being made.
The NTA are continuing to work on a range of additional features including automated top-ups, making the card available to Bus Eireann commuters in the greater Dublin area, and the ability to buy cards and top up at rail stations.
Leap cards can be used on all Dublin Bus, Luas, DART and 'short hop' commuter rail services. Customers can buy or top up the cards at 400 agent shops around the capital.
