Martin calls for 'general proceedings' against Flynn
The Fianna Fáil leader has called for "general proceedings" against Padraig Flynn - for the state to recover a IRL£50,000 payment, described as corrupt by the Mahon Tribunal.
In a speech to the Dáil this evening, Micheál Martin said that the payment to Mr Flynn, when he was a Government Minister, should be followed up by the appropriate authorities.
Earlier Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore described the tribunal report as a "chronicle of betrayal, ignominy and disgrace".
Micheál Martin said that he accepts the wrongdoing by former members of his party - and that criminal charges should be brought against some people:
“…I believe that the evidence uncovered by the tribunal and independently available to the DPP is more than sufficient for a number of people to face serious charges”
“I hope that this will be progressed urgently”, he said.
