Body recovered from Cork river

A man's body has been recovered from the River Lee in Cork city today.

The Naval Service deployed a dive team this afternoon in response to a request from Gardaí.

It followed the discovery of a vehicle in the water in the Kennedy Quay area by the Mallow Search and Rescue Unit.

The team arrived on scene at around 1.30pm and the body was recovered from the vehicle less than an hour later.

His remains have been brought to Cork University Hospital for a post mortem examination.
