Court charges Dublin man with father's murder

A 29-year-old man, originally from Crumlin, has appeared in Dublin District Court charged with murdering his father last January.

The court heard Edward Boylan Junior, of no fixed abode, replied: "I'm better off not saying anything," when charged after caution following his arrest yesterday.

He is accused of murdering his father, Edward Boylan, who was found dead following a fire and a stabbing at Ravensdale Close, Crumlin on January 6 or 7 this year.

The body of 74-year-old pensioner Edward Boylan was found with stab wounds after emergency services were alerted to a fire at a retirement home in Kimmage.

Det Sgt Barry Butler gave evidence that Edward Boylan jnr was arrested around 4.30pm yesterday evening on the North Circular Road.

He said when charged and cautioned at Crumlin Garda Station the accused replied: "I'm better off not saying anything".

Judge John O'Neill granted legal aid and an order for the 29-year-old to receive appropriate medical attention while in custody ahead of his next court appearance at Cloverhill on this day week.
