Campaigners urge public to help stop internet law
Campaigners are urging the public to contact their local TDs to stop a new internet law from coming into force.
SOPA has already caused outcry internationally, for fears it may block access to entire internet sites over copyright concerns.
The Stop SOPA Ireland group says the new law is not being voted on in the Oireachtas and therefore cannot be properly scrutinised.
Instead, the law is being enacted by Ministerial order by Minister of State for Research and Innovation Seán Sherlock.
"The Minister is proposing to bring in a law which is equally vague, in allowing injunctions in almost any circumstances," said Simon McGarr from McGarr Solicitors.
"It doesn't write in to the legislation when an injunction is appropriate, it has entirety handed over its duty as legislators to the courts."
Those opposed to the new law to visit their TD tomorrow to voice their concerns.
