Pollution specialists assist with Limerick river clean-up
Limerick County Council has employed two environmental pollution firms to assist with the clean-up operation along the River Deel.
It comes after a significant volume of oil entered the river this week, restricting water supplies and affecting up to 1,500 households.
The restrictions are expected to remain in place until early next week. Nine tankers are providing fresh drinking water throughout West Limerick.
The Council said water supplies would remain switched off in some areas, while intermittent services would exist elsewhere.
The most affected parts of the county include Askeaton, Foynes, Shanagolden, Ballysteen, Kilcornan and Creeves.
