The murder trial of a Dublin man accused of shooting his friend in the head has heard that he told gardaí: "It was him or me."

Twenty-six-year-old Jonathan Dunne of Windmill Park, Crumlin denies murdering Ian Kenny at Lakelands Road, Stillorgan in July 2009.

Dunne is serving time for the attempted murder of Ian Kenny, who was shot twice in broad daylight in a car outside a row of shops in Stillorgan on July 4, 2007.

The victim remained in a vegatative state and died two years later.

The 26-year-old accused is now being tried for murder.

The jury has heard how Ian Kenny was pushed from a Volkswagen Golf after he was shot. The car was later set on fire in Knocklyon Wood.

Jonathan Dunne was covered in blood when arrested by gardaí. He told them: "I shot Ian Kenny in the head due to circumstances…It was either him or me. I was done a favour and this is how I had to repay."

However, in later interviews he said another man in a Nissan Sunny carried out the shooting. The trial continues.
