Taoiseach making preparations for possible Euro referendum
Taoiseach Enda Kenny said today that he is going to make preparations for a European referendum, even before the Attorney General advises if one is necessary.
The final draft of the agreement reached by 26 leaders in a bid to save the euro is expected to be finalised in the New Year.
The Attorney General will then decide whether or not a constitutional referendum is required.
"I am however going to set up the Referendum Commission in the Spring, so that’s going to have adequate time to reflect on what referendum might actually be held," he said.
"Clearly, there were lessons on the last occasion, where, if the time is too short, people have confusion about some of these issues."
