Man fights for life after assault in Leitrim

A man is fighting for his life in hospital today after he was seriously assaulted in Co Leitrim overnight.

No arrests have been made and gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

At around 3.30am, a man in his 30s was found with serious head injuries, in the Townparks area of Carrick on Shannon.

He was rushed to Sligo General Hospital, where he is now in a critical condition.

The area has been sealed off for a technical examination.
