Number of calls to The Samaritans up 9%

The Samaritans have reported a record number of calls to its helpline over the past year, mainly due of the recession.

The charity said that they received more than more than 265,000 calls to speak to a volunteer in the 12 months to October - a 9% increase on the previous year's figure.
