Priory Hall residents to hold vigil to highlight lack of progress
Two hundred and forty residents of Priory Hall in North Dublin who were due to move home today, will instead hold a vigil to highlight the failure to allow them back into their homes.
The residents were due to move back into the apartment complex today, under a five-week deadline originally set by the High Court.
Instead, the residents will stage a candle-lit vigil at the site tonight (7.30pm-8pm) to highlight the fact that no remedial work has been done since they were evacuated from the complex in mid-October over fire safety concerns.
Last week, Dublin City Council asked the Supreme Court for an urgent hearing of its appeal against court orders requiring it to cover spiralling accommodation costs for the residents.
Local Labour councillor Brian McDowell called on Environment Minister Phil Hogan to step in to establish who should pay for the housing needs of the residents and the remedial works at the complex.
