Crew members of the Irish vessel The MV Saoirse and the Canadian ship The Tahrir are being detained in an Israeli prison this evening, awaiting deportation back to Ireland.

Twenty-seven people onboard both ships were detained yesterday by Israeli forces as they were attempting to bring aid supplies to Gaza.

The Taánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Eamon Gilmore said in a statement this evening that all crew members were in good health.

He said the Israeli authorities were ready to deport them immediately, provided they were prepared to waive their right to appeal the decision.

Embassy officials are providing legal advice to the group.
