Liam Adams extradited to North

The brother of Sinn Féin president Gerry Adams is due to face sex charges in Belfast tomorrow after being extradited from the Republic.

Liam Adams, 56, was arrested by police in the North after a failed legal bid to stay south of the border.

He was handed over to detectives from Belfast and will appear at the city’s magistrates’ court tomorrow morning accused of 18 separate charges which include rape and gross indecency.

Police launched an investigation after allegations in 2009 by Adams’ daughter Aine Tyrrell who waived her right to anonymity.

Adams, who is originally from west Belfast, lost a legal battle against being extradited after a court in Dublin last month refused him permission to remain in the Republic.

He handed himself over to police last year after a European Arrest Warrant was issued by police in the North.

He has denied all the charges.
