A major protest is taking place in Dublin city centre now against the EU/IMF austerity programme.

Demonstrators are marching from the Garden of remembrance on Parnell Square to the Merrion Hotel, where delegates from the Troika are staying.

Organisers say that the austerity programme is causing huge suffering for ordinary Irish citizens.

They are also calling the Government to halt its collaboration with the Troika.

Today's demonstration is part of a global day of protests, with similar events taking place in the US, Greece, Italy, Spain and Portugal.
