Aer Arann move will lead to 'significant redundancies'
The Managing Director of Galway Airport has described Aer Arann's decision to suspend all of its flights in and out of the facility as a "huge blow".
From the end of this month, flights between the airport and London, Manchester, Edinburgh and Waterford will stop for the winter season.
Talks with Aer Arann's 35 flight deck and cabin crew at Galway are underway.
It is understood staff are being offered the option to relocate or the choice to take unpaid leave through the winter.
Managing Director of Galway Airport, Joe Walsh, has told Galway Bay FM that there will be significant jobs losses.
Mr Walsh said: "We are obviously going to maintain our operations at a lower category and there will be significant redundancies.
"We have commenced the process with our staff and with respect to our staff we will be dealing as quickly as possible in that regard over the coming months in terms of going through the details."
