Driving lessons 'should be on curriculum'

An Oireachtas Committee is urging Transport Minister Leo Varadkar to consider making driving lessons mandatory for school students.

The Joint Oireachtas Committee on Environment, Transport, Culture and the Gaeltacht is also suggesting that parking fines paid within two weeks of being issued be slashed by half in order to reduce administration costs, as a similar scheme in the North has done.

The Committee also wants owners of illegally dumped cars to face penalty points.
