Dublin school for children with autism to close today

A Dublin school which caters for children with autism is to close today after the Department of Education turned down funding proposals from the Achieve ABA school.

The eight-student facility has been funded up until now by pupils' parents and through the grants they were receiving for home tuition.

Pat McCormack's daughter Maeve is one of those who are looking for a new school because of the move. Mr McCormack said the move made no sense, as the school was more efficient than the State sector in providing education to children with autism.

"We invited the Inspectorate out to our school to inspect our model. We provide education and support services for children with autism for 20% less than the State use for similar provision," he said.

"We are faced with no option other than to continue advocating for our children."
