An investigation is underway after five masked men armed with handguns broke into a house in Co. Louth.

An investigation is underway after five masked men armed with handguns broke into a house in Co. Louth.

The men broke into the house on the Racecourse Road in Dundalk sometime before 8am yesterday morning.

There were eight people in the house at the time of the incident, including three children, all of whom were under four years of age.

A 36-year-old man was injured during a struggle and has been taken to hospital, where his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

An undisclosed sum of cash was taken before the men fled the house on foot.

It is believed that they had driven to the house and had parked a distance away.

No arrests have been made.
