Reilly vows to avoid doctor shortage at hospitals
The Health Minister Dr James Reilly has pledged to fix the impending doctor shortage in Ireland's hospitals.
From July 11, hospitals across the country may have to curtail services due to a chronic shortage of non-consultant hospital doctors, because this is the date when doctors are rotated between posts as part of their training.
It is thought, for example, the Accident and Emergency department at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Limerick may have to close at night, from 8pm until 8am, due to a lack of doctors.
But Junior Minister and Limerick TD Jan O'Sullivan has said she is confident it won't happen.
