Call for minimum alcohol pricing
There are calls for the introduction of a floor price for alcohol.
It comes as European Week Against Cancer gets underway.
One in 10 cancers in men and one in 33 cancers in women are caused by alcohol.
Cliona Murphy, Policy Officer with Alcohol Action Ireland, said the Government has a real chance to reduce our levels of drinking.
"The World Health Organisation tells us that pricing is one of the key ways to reduce levels of alcohol consumption," she said.
"Our government has an opportunity to make a difference - minimum pricing, which is a floor level below which alcohol cannot be sold, will go some way to reducing the amount that we drink."
