The High Court has made a order winding up a well known West of Ireland Hotel after being informed that it had failed to satisfy a debt owed to Revenue of more than €500,000.

Today Ms Justice Mary Laffoy made an order winding up the West County Hotel (Ennis) Ltd. after being informed that the company, with a registered address at Clare Road Ennis Co Clare was insolvent and unable to pay its debts.

The Revenue Commissioners had petitioned the court seeking to have the company, which was incorporated in 1975 to carry on the business of a hotel, restaurant, cafe and caravan site, wound up.

Mark O'Mahoney Bl for Revenue told the court that last February Revenue served the company with a 21-day demand for payment of €509,860 for unpaid VAT, PRSI/PRSI and corporate tax. Counsel said that the demand had not been satisfied and the firm should be wound up.

The application was unopposed.

Ms Justice Laffoy in making an order winding up the firm also appointed chartered accountant Mr Charlie Hurley of OHB Consulting to act as liquidator to the company.

The Judge also ordered that the directors of the West County Mr Michael Lynch and Michael B Lynch of Clare Road Ennis Co Clare, and Mr Paul Talbot, Ridgeview, Wingates, Bray, Co Wicklow furnish the court with a statement of affairs.

The matter was made returnable to a sitting of the High Court Examiner's list in early June.
