Parking restrictions come into force for Queen's visit

Parking restrictions have come into force in some parts of Dublin city this morning, ahead of the Queen of England's visit here on Tuesday.

Around 30 streets across the city will be affected and barriers will be erected along the routes over the weekend.

Over the last number of days there has been a higher Garda presence on the streets of Dublin.

That is set to increase over the weekend, as the security operation for Queen Elizabeth's visit kicks into action.

Today around 40 kilometres of barriers will be erected streets and a full list of the streets is available on garda.ie.

Up to 10,000 Gardaí and Army personnel have been drafted for this security operation which is expected to cost around €30m.

There has already been a number of arrests and gardaí say they are monitoring closely dissidents and al-Qaida sympathisers and indeed anyone intent on causing trouble during the visits of Queen Elizabeth and US President Barack Obama.
