C Case rapist appeals conviction for rape of 86-year-old woman
The rapist at the centre of the "C Case" in the 1990s is appealing against his conviction for repeatedly raping an 86-year-old woman.
Thirty-seven-year-old Simon McGinley of Latlorcan Court, Monaghan is serving a 21-year sentence for the attack on the elderly woman at her home on June 16, 2008.
Simon McGinley was jailed for eight years in 1998 after pleading guilty to raping the then 13-year-old girl at the centre of the "C Case" in 1997.
In 2009, he was convicted of raping an 86-year-old woman after pushing his way into her house in the early hours of the morning.
The woman was unfit to give evidence at the trial but the offence was described as "as bad as it gets" by the judge who imposed a 21-year sentence.
Simon McGinley is today appealing against the conviction and the severity of his penalty.
