Four questioned after oil laundering plant discovered

Gardaí are today questioning four men after uncovering a massive oil laundering plant in Co Meath.

The four - two from the North, the others from counties Louth and Meath - were detained after the discovery of 30,000 litres of laundered fuel, 12,000 litres of so-called 'sludge', two tanker trailer-units and four vehicles at the site in Knightstown.

The plant would be able to launder nearly eight million litres of fuel per year, at an annual loss to the Exchequer of around €4m.
