Inquest into prisoner's death adjourned amid concerns over handling of illness

An inquest has heard that a 52-year-old inmate of Cloverhill Prison died last year having shown symptoms of swine flu.

John O'Connor of Athlumney Castle, Navan, Co Meath passed away in Beaumont Hospital on March 10, 2010 having been unwell for some time.

The Dublin City Coroner has adjourned the hearing until September over concerns by the deceased's family about the handling of his illness prior to his admission to hospital.

They want to know why tamiflu or steroids were not prescribed and whether he should have been hospitalised sooner.
