Two men have appeared in court in Dublin this morning charged with assault, causing harm to another man in Dublin's City Centre on Friday night.

The men - Patrick Healy of Buttercup Park in Coolock and Stephen Seery, of Ballyogan Vale in Carrickmines - are accused of seriously assaulting 35-year-old Romanian national Constantine Florea outside a late night shop, on the North Circular Road at around 1.30am yesterday morning.

It is understood that Mr Florea's arm was almost severed with a machete or a sharp knife during the attack. He was rushed to the Mater Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.

He is now said to be in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

Mr Seery and Mr Healy were each granted bail of €1,000 at Dublin District Court today, on condition that they sign on daily in Stepaside garda station and Coolock garda station respectively.

They have also been ordered to stay away from the Dublin 7 area except for court appearances and have been told not to come in contact with any party relating to the case.

Mr Seery and Mr Healy are due to appear back in Court on June 17.
