Family escapes unhurt as explosives truck crashes into shop

A truck carrying inert explosive components has crashed into the local shop in the village of Moneygall, Co Offaly.

Nobody was injured in the incident, which happened shortly after 8am this morning.

Locals say minor damage was caused to the front window of the shop, which is owned by the Donovan family, who also own the ancestral home of the US President Barack Obama.

The family, who were not injured, were in the house at the back of the shop when the incident happened.

Fire services are at the scene but they say the contents of the truck pose no risk given they had not been mixed.

Earlier reports saying the truck was headed for Lisheen Mines have been discounted, the company has said it was not one of their loads.
