Leitrim fire fighters threaten industrial action
Fire Fighters in Leitrim are threatening industrial action, after 12 part-time fire fighters were sacked by Leitrim County Council for refusing to complete a breathing apparatus training course.
SIPTU, the union representing these part-time fire fighters, said a number of issues arising form the course need to be dealt with, and the union is calling for a national agreement to be put in place for such training courses.
Leitrim County Council said it had no other option but to sack the fire fighters, for non-compliance with the mandatory health and safety course.
SIPTU says it will now ballot its 48 retained firefighters in Leitrim for industrial action.
