Those behind Belfast bomb 'destroying the city they say they love'

Fifty families have spent another night out of their homes due to a continuing security alert in north Belfast.

Yesterday the PSNI revealed a bomb had been left outside a video store on the Antrim Road.

Detectives believe the device was planted at the weekend and was intended to murder officers attending a call in the Antrim Road area.

Last night, another suspicious object was discovered close by. It is thought it could be a component of the main device.

Lord Mayor of Belfast Pat Convery said those responsible did not care about who they affected.

"The people (responsible for) this have to realise their actions are destroying the city that they claim to love. We will not let that happen," he said.

The PSNI said the bomb was an anti-personnel device designed to kill its officers.

A security operation was launched yesterday after telephone warnings from dissident republican group Oglaigh na hEireann.
