Threatened mum begs judge to order son's arrest
A distraught mother begged a judge today to order the arrest of her teenage son claiming he threatened to have her throat cut and her other children taken from her.
Her 17-year-old son is accused of trespassing with intent to interfere with property at a shop, in Walkinstown, in Dublin, on January 16 last.
However, the teenager failed to turn up to his case at the Dublin Children's Court but his mother was present and pleaded with Judge Clare Leonard to “issue a warrant for him please.”
Judge Leonard heard that despite his mother's efforts the boy “refused to come.”
The youth's mother told the judge that her son has started to threaten her that her throat would be cut. She also claimed that the teen told her that he would get her other children “taken off me.”
Garda Simon Halpin said he doubted that the teenager would come to court of his own accord.
“He has not been attending school, I don't think he will have any intention of coming to court,” he said.
Judge Leonard issued a bench warrant for the teen to be arrested and brought before the court. She also asked for a social worker's report on the boy to furnished to the court.
The judge also heard that the teenager has already had previous involvement with social services and earlier the court had made it a bail condition that he would have to go to school.
