Ivor Callely case back before High Court for costs ruling
Ivor Callely's case over his expenses claims is back up before the High Court today for a determination on costs.
The court overturned the Senator's 20-day suspension and a committee finding that he had misrepresented his normal place of residence to claim more than €80,000 in travel expenses.
After his court win, Ivor Callely’s case returns to the High Court to determine the issue of who pays the legal costs.
His lawyers also said they wanted time to digest the judgement delivered 10 days ago.
The ruling found that the Seanad Committee investigating his expenses claims acted outside its powers and breached the Senator’s constitutional rights.
The High Court found that, rather than acting in a judicial manner, the committee made a political judgement that Ivor Callely misrepresented his living arrangements when claiming travel expenses from his house in Cork rather than his home in Dublin.
