Pensioner dies in Galway house fire

An elderly man has died in a house fire in Galway.

Gardaí and the fire service were called to a house at Clareview Park in Ballybane at 3am this morning.

Inside they found the body of a 76-year-old man.

The house has been sealed off for a technical examination and a post mortem is due to be carried out.

Gardaí say they are not treating the fire as suspicious.

It is thought it started in the sitting room of the house.
