Attempted armed robbery trio sent for trial

Three men charged over an attempted armed robbery at a gold and silver dealer's shop in Dublin in August, were today served with books of evidence and sent forward for trial.

The case relates to a raid at the Bullion Room shop, on Bolton Street, where staff members were tied up, on August 10 last.

Gary Byrne (aged 29), of Edenmore Crescent, Raheny, in north Dublin, Ian Jordan (aged 31), of Lanesborough Gardens, Finglas, Dublin and Aidan Murphy (aged 31) with an address at St Fanahan's Place, Mitchelstown, Co. Cork face charges including two counts of false imprisonment of staff members Sharna Ragonesi and Pattabhi Ram.

They are also accused of attempted robbery and possessing an imitation firearm with intent to commit a robbery.

The DPP has directed “trial on indictment,” which means it will be heard before a Circuit Court judge and jury.

Today at Dublin District Court, the three were served with books of evidence by Detective Garda Brian Quirke and Judge Denis McLoughlin made an order sending them forward for trial at the next term of the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

All three have been given bail and Judge McLoughlin agreed to grant legal aid to include senior counsel representation for the defendants given the seriousness of the charge.
