Central Bank pumped €10bn into Irish banks in November

New figures published this evening show the Central Bank had to pump another €10bn into Irish banks last month.

The total liquidity provided to our financial institutions by our Central Bank and the European Central Bank is now more than €181bn.

The Irish Central Bank has been providing money to our banks calling it "exceptional liquidity".

This jumped by €10bn last month to a total of €44.67bn.

Some commentators have expressed concern that this money is being used to cover Nama losses and may never be recovered.

Also last month, another €6.4bn was provided by the ECB on top of funds they have been providing to our banks since last April.

It means the amount of money extended to Irish banks has now reached €181.1bn.
