40 new jobs for Cork City

Forty jobs are being created with the opening of Cork’s newest late night venue, it was announced today.

The Bowery on Tuckey Street in Cork city centre will create direct employment for bar staff, DJs, sound engineers, marketing personnel, security, maintenance, cleaning and catering staff when it opens its doors tonight.

Management have also pledged to maintain employment in the local area by using the services of local suppliers and businesses.

Fifteen of the jobs will be full-time, with the remaining 25 on a part-time basis.

40 local tradesmen and builders have already been employed in the creation of the €400,000 project, creating a new venue featuring three separate rooms, four bars and a panoramic roof terrace overlooking The Peace Park.

“People love multi-room venues, they are always looking for variety, and with our different rooms,

and rooftop bar, we’ll offer that,” said promoter Rory O’Connell.

Applications are still being taken for bar staff to service demand over the busy Christmas period.

Local DJs Mike Darcy, Neil Corcoran and Dave Daly will spearhead entertainment at The Bowery with the relaunch of ‘Kickback’, which ran successfully for five years at The Everyman Palace Theatre.

Plans are also underway to host monthly events with all door proceeds going to local charities.
