Poll indicates steady support for main opposition parties
Support for the two main opposition parties is holding steady, according to the latest opinion poll.
The Sunday Business Post Red C survey shows Fine Gael remaining the most popular party in the country, going up one percentage point to 33% and Labour is unchanged at 27%.
However, support for Fianna Fáil has hit an all time low of just 17%, down 1 point. This means that it would stand to lose more than half its Dáil seats if the results were to be repeated in a general election.
The poll was conducted on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week - most of it before it was confirmed the IMF was coming here.
Sinn Féin breaks the 10% mark or the first time in two years - going up two percentage points to 11%.
The Greens lose one point to 3% and Independents are down two points to 8%.
However it will probably be the next poll before an accurate reflection of support for Fianna Fáil can be measured following the confirmation of an IMF intervention and details of the December 6 Budget.
