Garda Commissioner expects decision on Anglo probe by year end
The Garda Commissioner Fachtna Murphy has said he expects some key developments in the investigation into financial irregularities at Anglo Irish Bank before the end of the year.
Commissioner Murphy said it was a complex investigation, but he hoped decisions would be made shortly on whether someone should or should not be prosecuted.
Yesterday, the Government came under the fire for the length of time the investigation was taking.
Fine Gael's Leo Varadkar said the Taoiseach should instruct the Gardaí to treat bankers like IRA subversives, and have them arrested.
Garda Commissioner Fachtna Murphy said the investigation was progressing "without any distraction". He said the garda job was to ensure a file went to the DPP as soon as possible.
"I would expect a decision by the end of the year," he said.
