Crash death man jailed for three years

A 39-year-old man has been jailed for three years for dangerous driving causing the death of a 51-year old man in October last year.

Jason Gormely, originally from Ennis in Co. Clare but with an address at Castleconnell, Limerick, pleaded guilty to the charge at Limerick Circuit Court this afternoon.

Evidence was heard that Mr Gormely was driving drunk on the wrong side of the N24 Limerick-Tipperary road when his car collided with another car, killing Aidan Lawless from Clonmel.

The accused fled the scene on foot and was pursued by gardaí until his arrest the following day when he was spotted by a Garda running half naked across a roadway.
