Gardaí 'actively pursuing dissidents', says Commissioner

Garda Commissioner Fachtna Murphy said today that the force is "actively" pursuing dissident republicans.

Commissioner Murphy has told a conference in the North today that while the actual number of dissidents is small, their focus and dedication poses a real threat.

He told a conference on cross border crime today that Gardaí and the PSNI are working closely to stamp out dissidents.

“We are actively engaged in sharing information, sharing intelligence, and working closely with our colleagues in Northern Ireland to prevent and to stop a small group of people whose ideals and motives are not what one would require in peaceful communities in the island,” he said.
