Elderly woman dies in Clare nursing home fire

A pensioner has died following a fire at a nursing home in County Clare in the early hours of this morning.

The alarm was raised at around 1am this morning in a room at the Lakes Nursing home in Killaloe.

The 95-year-old woman died while staff were evacuating residents to another part of the building.

Investigations are continuing to establish the cause of the fire.
