Post mortems on Cork boat blaze victims

Post mortems are being carried out on the bodies of three men who died after their motorcruiser went on fire off the West Cork coast.

A fourth man, Ed Dziato, who was airlifted to safety by the Coastguard, has been released from hospital, and is recovering from the shock of the tragedy at home.

The three men who lost their lives in the tragedy have been named as Richard Harmann and Mike Schmidt from Glengarriffe and Wolfgang Schnoder from Bantry.

Both the Gardaí and Marine Casualty Investigation Board are trying to establish what caused the fire, and why it spread so fast.

The 25-foot vessel sank within an hour of the alarm being raised at around 5.30pm yesterday evening.
