Monaghan to get 150 new jobs

Up to 150 jobs are to be created in Co Monaghan with the opening of a new state-of-the-art mushroom growing facility.

Up to 150 jobs are to be created in Co Monaghan with the opening of a new state-of-the-art mushroom growing facility.

Monaghan Mushrooms will grow up to 6,000 tonnes of product annually and will be one of the most modern plants of its kind in Europe.

Today, Agriculture Minister Brendan Smith will officially open the €12m site, in Tyholland, Co Monaghan.

Founded in the 1981 by local man Ronnie Wilson, Monaghan Mushrooms now employs 2,297 people across Ireland, the UK and Canada.

He believes the new development will have a very positive impact on the company as well as bring employment to the town.

The new facility is made up of 18 individual mushroom growing houses amounting to more than 21,000 square metres

Each growing unit is equipped with the latest technology to ensure a quality product
