Tankers to ease Cork water shortage

Water tankers were being put in place this afternoon to provide water to householders affected by last night’s major break in Ballincollig, Co Cork.

Water supply to thousands of homes was cut off after a break in the Innishmore area of the town.

Water was restored late last night and this morning to thousands of homes in Ballincollig and the western suburbs of the city.

But households in Waterfall, the high area of Ballinora and to the Bandon Road roundabout area on the outskirts of the city were still without water this morning.

A Cork County Council spokesman said this morning: “Tankered supplies are being arranged for these areas. Tankers will be located outside O’Shea’s pub, Waterfall, and Dunnes car park, Bishopstown Court.”

Power supply had to be cut to a number of homes in Ballincollig from 7.45am this morning as underground power lines had to be exposed as part of the repair work.

While the disruption is not on the same scale as the supply interruptions which occurred last winter, people were seen purchasing bottled water in shops early this morning in anticipation that they could be without running water for an extended period.
